CO-OP

Duyen Nguyen

In May 2023 Duyen Nguyen passed her viva at SOAS for a PhD dissertation entitled Issues in the Curation of Champa Art in Vietnam, 1915–2020: On Stylistic Chronology, Object Authenticity and Museum Identity. Upon completion of her doctoral thesis, she resumed work at the Department of Education of the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, where she is responsible for designing and implementing educational programming. She is also a co-editor of Pratu – SOAS postgraduate journal of Buddhist and Hindu Art, Architecture and Archaeology of Ancient to Premodern Southeast Asia.

In joining the CO-OP project, she hopes to widen her research on object authenticity to include more extensive probing of issues linking circulation, replication, ownership, conservation and display. She is looking forward to teaming up with members from other countries to share experiences and explore theoretical backgrounds and specific case studies. She sees Vietnam as an integral part of the larger Southeast Asian mosaic and will seek ways to enable understandings and practices of restitution in her homeland to benefit from this regional belonging.
